Thief Captured On Camera After Vandalizing Church Several Times

A south St. Louis church relentlessly vandalized for its copper gutters now has an image of the thief.

Monday night, security cameras at St. Johns Lutheran Church on Morganford at Chippewa caught the thief if action on video tape.

"Oh I am hoping for a solution. Our church would really like to see this guy stopped," said Rev. Michael Tanney, pastor at St. Johns.

The thefts began this past summer, and the pastor estimates he has struck at least 15 times, each time robbing the building of a few feet more of copper guttering and flashing.

After a Fox 2 story in July, two local security companies donated cameras to the church to help stop the thefts.

Since then, church members have been taking turns staying at the church overnight waiting for the thief to appear on camera, and stay long enough for the police to respond.

Taxpayers Not Sold On New LED Street Lights

It’s a huge change that can give the entire City of St. Louis a new look and most of us probably don’t even notice it's already underway.

The city is testing new streetlights.  They look a lot different and save a lot of energy.  Still, the St. Louis Street Department is hardly “sold” on them.

You can see the difference between “old & new” at  intersections like Macklind and Chippewa in south St. Louis where the lights are right next to each other.

People walking and driving by seem to like the new “whiter” looking lights until they hear how much they cost.

There are 400 new lights in a city of 52,000 of them.  The old lights are “high pressure sodium” type.  They have an almost yellow tint.

Fresh Start Academy

TheU.S. Census Bureausays a worker with a high school diploma earns an average of $6,700 more per year than those without a GED. Second changes are hard to come by for dropouts, especially if they've been out a long time.

The "Fresh Start" Academy created by the St. Louis School District gives those chances to help build brighter futures and it's free.  Dr. Debra Childress-Powers, Principal of Fresh Start South and two graduates explained the program and what it does for young people.

Family, Friends Say Goodbye to Jerry Clinton

Family and friends gathered Tuesday to pay their final respects to St. Louis businessman Jerry Clinton.  The 74-year old died January 18, 2012 after a five year battle with cancer.

During a funeral mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis on Lindell Blvd. Clinton was described as generous, shrewd, tough and kind.  "Jerry lived the American dream," said his friend, sportscaster Joe Buck.  He fought his way from poverty to wealth beginning with an entry level job for Anheuser Busch and eventually owning one of the most successful beer distributorships in the firm's history, Grey Eagle Distributing.

That success gave him opportunities.  Monsignor John Shamleffer, who delivered the homily and celebrated Mass, said the word "love" epitomized Clinton.  "Jerry took blessings he had and was able to touch so many people," Monsignor Shamleffer said.

Gang Member Pleads Guilty In Triple Murder

It was a series of crimes that revolved around marijuana, money and the brutal murders of three men. It was all centered around a gang in St. Louis called the Invaders. They are known by local and federal law enforcement as drug dealers who killed anyone who got in their way; even members of their own gang.

Monday in St. Louis County Court one of the gang members, Edward Bouroughf, pleaded guilty to killing three men in 2007. All three victims were dismembered and their body parts dumped in area counties. The remains of Allen Little were found in a sink hole in Perry County. Police say he was a member of the Invaders and killed because gang members no longer trusted him. Two other men were shot and killed in south St. Louis.

Randy Greenman was killed over drug money, but the other man, George Wiiter, 35, was killed for being with his friend at the wrong place at the wrong time. The men's remains were found in Jefferson and St. Charles County.
