St. Louis Bosnian Community Excited For Soccer Match

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The local Bosnian community contains roughly 70,000 people in the St. Louis area.

Thursday night’s match is a very hot ticket amongst that community because of one man. Number 10, Edin Dzeko, known better by his countrymen, as the Bosnian diamond.

Recent Bayless High School grad and son of a Bosnian college soccer player, Fazlo Alihodzic said the hallways at his former school buzzed at the news of the Bosnian national soccer star Edin Dzeko coming to town with Manchester City.

Faz has not been able to get tickets to the match yet, but is not giving up.

Fazlo, a 4-year soccer star at Bayless High School, doesn’t want to miss his chance to see a Bosnian national soccer star live in action.

Some employees at the Bosnian newspaper in South City had a little better luck scoring tickets to the match, and they cannot wait to see Dzeko.

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The owner of a south St. Louis daycare was robbed at gunpoint in front of her business.  Owner Regina McIntyre said, “I was terrified it was sad in broad daylight.”

McIntyre has owned Magic Moments Learning Center for two years at the corner of Broadway and Miami.  Every month she would take employees paychecks to a nearby bank and cash them so workers could avoid a check cashing fee.  That was the case until last Wednesday.

McIntyre said, “They was running at full speed toward me.”

Surveillance video shows McIntrye returning to the daycare from the bank.  She saw two masked men approaching and she ran for the daycare center door but it was locked.  She doubled back to the car.  One of the suspects pulled out a gun and took her purse and $7,000 inside and both suspect run away.

Zoo’s Newest Elephant, Priya Makes Her Debut

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – Priya, the newest elephant at the St. Louis Zoo, made her first public appearance Wednesday morning.

“There she is!” yelled one woman.  “She is so cute!”

Others craned their necks and stretched their arms to snap pictures of the little, hairy Asian Elephant calf.  Actually, she was little only when compared to her mother who gave birth in April.

“Now she weighs 310 pounds, so almost 60 pounds in less than a month,” the zoo’s Mammal Curator, Martha Fisher, smiled.  “Absolutely normal weight.  Absolutely normal gestation.  Her mom, Ellie, is just and exceptional mom.  She is doing a great job raising this young one.”

When Priya scurried across the sand, small children screamed her name.  So, did teenage boys on a high-school field trip.  Fischer was smiled at what could be the next generation of conservationists getting so excited about Priya’s debut.
