Bon Appétit says, “Taste by Niche is a tiny restaurant right next door to its bigger brother, Niche. Chef Gerard Craft, who runs both places, opened Taste as a place to grab a drink and a pre-dinner snack. We were particularly taken with the radish bruschetta. A quick sauté tames the bite of the radishes and gives them a lush texture.”

The Tomato Ball & Tomatofest Street Festival

Summer in St. Louis brings heat, humidity and … the annual TomatoFest at the Iron Barley Restaurant (5510 Virginia Avenue in South St. Louis).

According to Tom Coghill, who, with his wife Gen, owns the Iron Barley eating establishment, “Once again this year, we will celebrate the versatility and beauty of this humble vegetable – or is it a fruit?”

The Coghills are the organizers of this annual festival, and they are gearing up for a weekend of food, music and fun.

This year, TomatoFest takes place on Sunday, August 22, from 1-7 pm, with the Tomato Ball on Saturday evening, August 21 from 6-10 pm. And, again this year, proceeds from the event will go to support Lift for Life Gym.

The Tomato Ball, a sit-down dinner that includes wine, beer and dessert, will give diners a chance to dance to the music of two bands, one during dinner from 6-8 and another during dessert from 8:30-10.
