First Black History Wax Museum In The Midwest

"The Griot Museum of Black History & Culture" (The Griot") is the first black history wax museum in the Midwest and one of only two of its kind in the United States, The name more accurately reflects its mission and purpose-the keeper of the stories, culture, and history of Black people. Expanding on the role of the griot in our society, the Griot’s mission is to "create a community of lifelong learners who explore, experience and embrace Missouri’s rich and enduring African-American heritage." Our vision is to be the premier resource for Black history and culture in the Midwest.

Saint Louis Chamber Chorus “A Leader's Lament”

On Sunday, May 27 the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus will sing choral music on a grand scale. “A Leader's Lament” offers an emotionally charged program of laments by and for leaders: social, political and spiritual.

The Old Testament tragedy embodied in the verse “When David heard that Absalom was slain, he went up to his chamber and wept” will be treated to two settings; one by Jacobean composer Thomas Tomkins and the other by modern composer Francis Pott. Pott's work was originally commissioned by the Chamber Chorus and had its world premiere in 2008.

Mixed Martial Artists To Fight For Our Troops

UFC Veteran and World MMA Champion Jermaine Andrew is bringing a big MMA, kickboxing fight night to St. Louis. The event called 'A Fight For Our Troops' will raise money for two charities that support veterans. Mission Continues and The Wounded Warrior Project.

  
Both organizations continue to  honor and empower wounded warriors of the United States Armed Forces    The event will also honor veterans .  The organizations also extended a helping hand to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs. Offering a variety of programs and services, they are equipped to serve warriors with every type of injury – from the physical to the invisible wounds of war.

St. Louis Helping Hands Feeding The Hungry

Missouri is a state rich in history, beauty, prosperity, education and opportunity. However, within  our richness, lies poverty, fear and hunger. The St. Louis Area Foodbank says 1 out of every 8 people in the Bi-State region are in need of food assistance.

A local group called Helping Hands is working  around the clock keeping their shelves fully stocked  providing food free of charge to people who may not know where their next meal is coming from. The Helping Hands organization believes in the power of community and is on a mission to create a hunger free America.

The Salvation Army Is Looking For Volunteer Musicians

This the season for Red Kettles, the Salvation Army will be rolling out the Red Kettles soon and will need volunteer musicians to bring in the Holiday Season for the Tree Of Lights Campaign.  Volunteer musicians are needed to play at the kettles and other events during November and December.
