St. Louis Alderman Wants Anti-Meth Law in City | News

ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A St. Louis alderwoman is pushing for a city law requiring prescriptions or cold and allergy pills containing pseudoephedrine, a decongestant commonly used to make methamphetamine.

Democrat Jennifer Florida told KWMU Radio (http://bit.ly/QMfeEA ) that police this year have dismantled two meth labs in her ward, the 15th. While clandestine meth labs are most often found in rural areas, Florida says the city of St. Louis needs to address concerns about the dangerous and addictive drug.

Florida co-sponsored a similar measure in 2010 but it never got a hearing. About 70 Missouri communities currently require prescriptions for pseudoephedrine products, but state lawmakers have so far declined to pass a statewide prescription-only law.
