Welllington Bridge Construction Sign

Welllington Bridge Construction Sign

Residents of south St. Louis have been dealing with bridge construction for the last couple of years as bridges get improved, but traffic has certainly been a challenge during rush hour.  Monday, the Wellington Bridge over the River Des Peres on the southern end of McCausland was closed to traffic.

This sign was seen by resident Lisa Roggeman and photographed Thursday.  MoDOT crews want to make sure drivers realize the bridge is out.

St. Louis Zoo Installs “Bee Boxes”

St. Louis Zoo Installs “Bee Boxes”

One out of every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators. Honeybees, bumblebees and other insects, birds and small mammals pollinate over 90 percent of the planet's flowering plants and one third of all human food crops.

The Saint Louis Zoo has recently installed “bee boxes” for these nesting pollinators in five locations throughout the Zoo. Visitors can see these small, wooden birdhouse-like structures with rows of tiny hollow tubes in Missouri Meadow outside of the Monsanto Insectarium, in the Emerson Children’s Zoo, near the Zoo’s Administration Building and at other locations. These bee homes attract leaf-cutter, mason and masked bees, all species that would normally nest in pre-existing holes in wood made by other species, such as beetles.

No More Trash! Bash Starts In April

No More Trash! Bash Starts In April

As you drive along Missouri highways in this month, you might notice the grass turning green and the trees becoming covered with leaves. You likely will also notice fast food wrappers, soda cans, and trash of all shapes and sizes. That’s why April is No MOre Trash! Bash in Missouri, so volunteers across the state can get out and help clean it up.

This is the tenth year for the No MOre Trash! Bash, a litter prevention campaign launched by the Missouri Departments of Transportation and Conservation to encourage Missourians to join the “spring cleaning” and help Missouri become a litter-free state.
