St. Louis Leaf & Yard Waste Winter Collection

St. Louis Leaf & Yard Waste Winter Collection

Effective October 19th, residents who use roll-out carts may request a special leaf collection.  Our truck will collect bagged yard waste from residents who call the Citizen’s Service Bureau at 622-4800.  This is in addition to the Wednesday yard waste collection.

The City of St. Louis Refuse Division would like to advise residents that yard waste services for roll-out carts will be discontinued during the winter months.   Wednesday, December 14, 2011, will be the last pick-up date for yard waste placed in roll-out carts.  Weekly yard waste collection for roll-out carts will resume March 7, 2012.

Residents with alley containers will continue to receive yard waste pick-up. However, the schedule will change from a weekly pick-up to a monthly pick-up effective December 19, 2011.  The monthly pick-up will occur during the same week as the bulk collection for each neighborhood.

A south St. Louis homeowner says the city's change in garbage pick-ups has left his neighborhood in the dumps. Overflowing trash bins creating a big mess and problems are likely to grow if something’s not done soon.

1 Year Later, MoDOT Is Smaller, Leaner

A year ago this month, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced it would save $203 million over the next five years by cutting costs and eliminating 400 salaried positions by June 30, 2013.

Now a year into that plan, the department is on pace to meet those targets.  MoDOT has reduced the size of its workforce by more than 300 employees.  As a result of those staff reductions and other belt-tightening measures, the department has identified $70 million in cost savings to date.

Area law enforcement agencies are getting a helping hand from military police of the Missouri  National Guard who are well-equipped to transport officers in severe winter weather.

Soldiers and vehicles of the 1175th Military Police, headquartered in St. Clair, and the 2175th Military Police Company, based in Hannibal, have been posted at St. Louis city and county police stations in the event they are needed to drive officers to an emergency call for service.

“This kind of weather makes it tough for us to get around,” said St. Louis County Police Sgt. Jeff Hoots, of Affton, who works out of the South County Precinct on Telegraph Road. “So these National Guard Soldiers and their Humvees will assist us in getting to certain areas within our precinct that we might not be able to reach in a normal patrol vehicle.”
